Alex photographs weddings with a mix of directed photography and photojournalism. Depending on culture, wedding days can generally be broken down into four parts: Getting Ready, Ceremony, Formals, Reception.
Getting Ready Coverage focuses on the couple separately with their families and attendants. The bride is photographed with each family member and other attendants. Directed bride portraits are taken showcasing her dress and details, as well as jewelry and bouquet. The groom is also photographed with family members and others who are present. He will get photos of suiting up for the ceremony as well as directed portraits of his suit and close up shots of any details and accessories. Each coverage usually ends with photos of them heading out for the ceremony venue.
Ceremony coverage usually includes venue details, everyone in the wedding processional, flower boys or girls, the ring bearer, families in attendance, officiant speaking, readings by family or attendants, the exchange of vows and wedding rings, the signing of marriage documents, the first kiss, and the exit processional. After the ceremony is a great time to take large group and family photos as everyone is usually present.
Formals photos are taken at the ceremony and reception venue and at other selected locations. Formals focuses on photos of the couple individually and together with each family member, bride's maids, groom's men, flower person, and ring bearer, and other special attendants. A large part of formals focuses on creating beautiful portrait photos of the newlywed couple, separately and together. Formals photos are often the most beautiful photos of the couple on their wedding day. Directed portrait photos will also be taken at other moments during the day at selected and opportune locations, depending on location, time, and available light.
Reception photos focus mostly photojournalistically on venue details, the grand entrance of the couple, speeches, cake cutting, any games, first dance, other dances, the general dance and party, and any other formalities, customs, or additional programming for the occasion. When possible, Alex will steal away the couple and take some directed portraits around the reception venue area.
